The Melody Maker was Gibson's most inexpensive solid body electric model, slotting below the Junior. It was originally introduced in 1959 with a body shape similar to the single-cutaway Les Paul Junior, and a narrower headstock design that makes it cheaper/easier to build by not requiring wings to be glued on like the regular open book headstock. This changed to the double cutaway Les Paul style in mid-1961. It wasn't until late 1966 that it finally adopted the SG bodystyle.
This example is from the re-issued range, built in 2012.

In 1957 Chrysler called the DeSoto “the most exciting car in the world today.” Futuristic styling, engineering firsts, stunning colours and LOTS of chrome – 1950’s bling. While this was happening in the car world the music world saw its own revolution – the arrival of Rock ‘n Roll and the first electric bass guitars.
The Desoto bass draws on a classic design known for exceptional versatility, rich midrange and bright treble response. The Sceptre DeSoto Series uses the original 1960’s style pickup positioning for the smoother and more present midrange of these instruments. This is further accented by a North American alder body with its comfortable, elegant contours.

A nice example of an old Epiphone. Built in 1992 at the Samick factory in Korea, these older Epiphone's are far superior to the more modern Chinese built Sheratons. Beautifully put together with excellent, sturdy hardware and electrics. The proof is in the pudding with these old Epiphone's and when you pick this guitar up the standard of instrument you're holding is obvious. The decoration on the headstock and inlays is beautiful.
